10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects

outdoor spring cleaning

Spring cleaning isn’t exciting for a lot of us. But it should be done. As the holidays and winter end and we begin looking forward to spring and warm weather, something inside of us pushes us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and purging things we’ve hoarded over the winter.

But who says spring cleaning is only for the inside of your house?
The exterior of your home could likely use some tidying up after a cold, dreary winter, too!

It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning

Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will drastically improve the appearance of your home in Coral Springs, and, more importantly, will provide much-needed care and maintenance that will save you a lot ofmoney over the years to come.

1. Gutter Cleaning

Spring is the optimal time of year to clean out your gutters, because so many of leaves and debris accumulate in the fall and winter. Pollen is at its highest in spring, making a big mess in your gutters and downspouts if they are not cleaned.

Plus, bugs and critters are looking for places to build homes in spring, so having your gutters cleaned out will help prevent an infestation in your home.

Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and rust stains and restoring them to a like-new appearance.

2. Window Cleaning

Exterior window cleaning is a must for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows shouldn’t cause you much of a problem, but second and third floor windows can be tougher to reach.

Cleaning windows by hand is an exhausting chore, and it will need a lot of tools, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your home’s windows is the perfect solution to get the panes and the outer frame nice and clean.

3. Pressure Washing

You don’t want clean gutters and clean windows on a dirty house. Which means you are going to want to pressure wash your home too!

Pressure washing is fast, effective and doesn’t cost too much. You can clean your house, outdoor furniture, concrete patios, porches and walkways with very little effort. It will knock off dirt and mud so they will not permanently stain your home, and you can also prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.

4. Driveway Cleaning

Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a deep cleaning might seem strange because you’ll be driving on it, but actually, a clean, cared for driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.

A professional pressure washer will do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it’s pavement, asphalt, stone or another material. Also think about adding a gravel or mulch border to your home’s driveway to really help it stand out!

5. Patio Cleaning

Your home’s patio gets the most use throughout the summer, so it’s easy to overlook it in the winter when you are not doing any outdoor entertaining, relaxing or grilling. Your patio can be in bad shape the first time you go onto it in spring.

Detergent and water – and a little hard work – can sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or mildew, you might need to think about a more serious option, like power washing, to ensure that friends and family can enjoy your patio all summer long.

6. Roof Cleaning

Mold and moss are common home roof issues in Coral Springs. While you are cleaning the exterior of your home, it’s an excellent time to clean your home’s roof as well, but you’ll need to use a different process than the one you use for most of your home’s exterior.

If you start to notice streaks on your home’s roof, algae is probably the reason. Moss is pretty obvious, too. These particles can’t be wiped off shingles, nor can you power wash the roof of your home. Both of these methods will destroy the shingles on your home’s roof.

The best course of action for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-water, half-bleach solution and then leave it be. This solution will kill any organic organisms on your home’s roof without reducing its lifespan.

7. Spruce up the Front

The front of your home is what most people passing by see, so make the best impression you can for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Returning home to a clean exterior will immediately improve your day, and it will probably inspire you to spend more time outside.

You can clean your front porch with soap and water or a good power wash. Clean cobwebs and mud off of the front porch, and consider painting it a new color for a really bright look! Clean overlooked areas like the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.

8. Organize Garden Tools

You’ll soon be spending a lot more time outdoors, so spring is a wonderful chance to organize everything you’ll need for outdoor work.

Gardening tools as well as pool care equipment need to all have an exact area outside your home – somewhere that it is safe from weather and not in sight so it isn’t a constant eyesore. Spending the time to organize in the spring will allow you to enjoy the exterior of your home much more throughout the time of year that you spend the most time outside.

9. Lawn Care & Landscaping

Your lawn, trees and bushes can make a huge impact on the overall look of your home.

Kill weeds near the exterior of your flower beds and walkways, till up places where you will be planting in the future and brush off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed poison to make yard maintenance easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all bushes too.

10. Clean the Grill

After sitting unused for months, your gas or charcoal grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are unappetizing, but they can also make you and your family ill.

Wet it down to get rid of leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber (so you do not leave behind particles that can get into food) and a dish soap or degreaser.
